We recently had the chance to sit down with CX, a fantastic education chain manager who oversees several kindergartens and daycare centers. She’s been in the game for years and shared so many great tips for teachers, center operators, and leaders. Honestly, I couldn’t keep all this gold to myself, so here it is!

Passion Over Qualifications
When it comes to hiring teachers, CX has a surprising approach: she doesn’t focus on qualifications first. Instead, she looks for people who truly love kids and have the right attitude. "Teachers can always take online or part-time courses to get their qualifications," she said, "but passion and mindset? That’s non-negotiable."
She makes a great point. You can teach someone skills, but you can’t teach someone to genuinely care. So, if you’re hiring, look for the spark that shows they’re in it for the kids, not just the paycheck.
Positive Culture Is Everything
This one really stuck with me. CX puts a lot of energy into creating a friendly and supportive workplace. She talks to her teachers regularly about the importance of being approachable, not just for the kids but for parents too.
And get this—they have a whole "smile culture"! Yep, they actually encourage teachers to bring their smiles to work every day. It might sound small, but think about how much happier a place feels when everyone is positive and smiling. It’s contagious!
Vital Kindergarten Leadership Tips
CX shared with us some very important kindergarten leadership tips! She sees teachers as the core of the kindergarten, and she treats them like the valuable assets they are. Here’s what she shared:
Know Your Team: Take the time to understand your teachers' strengths and weaknesses. She said, “Don’t make someone do what they hate or aren’t good at. It’s a recipe for burnout.”
Pair Them Wisely: This was a genius tip! Match teachers with complementary skills so they can balance each other out. If one is great at planning but not execution, pair them with someone who thrives on hands-on work.
Diversity Matters: Young teachers bring energy to keep up with the kids, while older teachers bring experience and calm. Both are important, and a mix can make your team unbeatable.
Train for Parent Communication: Parents are looking for reassurance when they visit a kindergarten. Teach your team to showcase their skills and backgrounds. As CX says, "Upsell your teachers, because their expertise is your biggest selling point."
Books That Changed Her Perspective
CX is a big reader, and she totally inspired me to pick up a few new books. She recommends these gems:
For Operators: Surrounded by Idiots by Thomas Erikson. It’s all about understanding different personality types so you can communicate and lead better. Sounds like a must-read for anyone managing a team!
For Teachers:
The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey – Classic book on personal and professional growth.
Mindset by Carol Dweck – This one’s a game-changer. It talks about the power of having a growth mindset and how it can transform how we teach and learn.
Grit by Angela Duckworth – A super inspiring read about the importance of perseverance and passion in achieving long-term goals.
I’ve already added these to my reading list. If you’ve read any of them, let me know what you think!
Networking Makes All the Difference
Talking to CX reminded me how important it is for educators to connect with each other. She’s proof that we can learn so much from sharing experiences and ideas. That’s why we started the ECE Club—to bring passionate educators and leaders like CX together.
